Back To The Bricks

It’s that time of year again for residents of the Flint, Michigan area as well as anyone looking to take a cruise to a car show before the summer winds down. The annual Back to the Bricks festivities in downtown Flint attract thousands of visitors each year, and certainly this will be no different. Back to the Bricks not only encompasses a great car show, but it also spills into the areas surrounding Flint, Michigan with classic car cruises and drive-in movies.

The event kicks off with a Tune Up Party Week, which features food, music, prices, and even a farmers market in different locations for the week leading up to the Back to the Bricks event, from August 7-11. On August 14, those interested can fire up their old classic car and enjoy a showing of the film Footloose at the local drive-in theater. August 15 and 16 will see swap meets and car cruises. The cruises take a tour from Flint down to Grand Blanc, Michigan. Along the route, many residents set up camp near the road with blankets, lawn chairs, and snacks as they watch cars pass by.

Returning to Flint on Friday August 17 and 18, the test results continue with live music, food vendors, and of course, a great car show that spans several city blocks.

2012 Deuce Week Coming Up

The winter months are a little bit slow for people who are into classic car cruises because of the fact that in most parts of the country the weather is uncooperative.

This is the time of year when you sit back and do your research to find the classic car cruises that you are interested in participating in once the weather starts to warm up. This alone can keep you going as you circle your calendar here and there and have some exciting events to look forward to in the coming months.

The good news is that spring is right around the corner, and it is not cold everywhere. One of the first big events of the new year is actually coming up quite soon and it is taking place in Los Angeles as it is being put on by the famed Peterson Automotive Museum.

The event that we are talking about is 2012 Deuce Week and it is going to be taking place on the Miracle Mile in Los Angeles on February 29 through March 3. This exciting gathering is a celebration of the 80th anniversary of the “Deuce,” which is of course a 1932 Ford.

These cars are truly legendary and this event is going to be something extraordinary with so many 1932 Fords all in one place. We are talking about 80-year-old vehicles so this is an assemblage of rarity on an extraordinarily grand scale.

In addition to the event that is going to be taking place on the streets The Peterson Automotive Museum is going to have a number of 1932 Ford motor vehicles on display as well. The Peterson is one of the foremost automotive museums anywhere in the world, and a visit to the museum is a worthy trip in itself. But when you combine a museum visit with 2012 Deuce Week you’re talking about an experience that you don’t want to miss!

Route 66 Classic Car Cruise

They say that it’s not the destination but the journey that really matters, and classic car fans certainly know what this is all about. Even if you’re taking a slow ride to nowhere you can have a fantastic time when you’re behind the wheel of a true American classic cruising down one of our historic highways.

And when you talk about historic highways in the United States, the first one that is going to come to mind is probably going to be Route 66. This iconic stretch of roadway was one of the first of its kind in the United States, becoming operational all the way back in 1926 during the adolescence of the automobile in America.

When it was first built this famous road, which is often called the “Mother Road,” started out in Chicago and ended up in Los Angeles which is nearly 2500 miles of American cruising. Clearly, a trip down Route 66 from one end to the other was the journey of a lifetime then and it is just as much fun today.

With the above in mind you may want to consider attending the Route 66 Classic Car Cruise this summer. The tentative date for the event is Saturday, August 11 and it is an extravaganza that you do not want to miss if you like classic car cruises. The Route 66 Classic Car Cruise is the pride of the Crestwood-Sunset Hills, Missouri area and the hospitality that they serve up is truly extraordinary.

If you’re ready to spend a day that is overflowing with event after event specially crafted for classic car fans, the Route 66 Classic Car Cruise is right up your alley.
